Pain

Friday was a real pain. The pain in my neck nearly drove me out of my mind! Hot pads, pain pills, pain relievers--no relief! My body worked so hard to fight the pain, that I was tired the next day.

We say that "he's a pain in the neck" or "she's a real pain" when someone annoys us. We also say, "No pain, no gain."

Some people think that physical exercise must be painful to be helpful. If you don't feel pain, you're not working hard enough. I prefer a painless, easy stretch, or a relaxing walk, thank you!

You can also use "pain" in a more positive way. You can say that she takes great pains to avoid mistakes in her work. She's very careful, very thorough--meticulous.

I hope that life is not painful for you now.

Eye

At the airport she asked me, "Would you keep an eye on my bags while I go to the restroom?"
My doctor wants me to keep an eye on my diet.

When I was young, my mom always knew what I was doing, even when I didn't think she was watching. I thought she must have eyes in the back of her head!

I've done this so many times that I can do it with my eyes closed.

My wife and I enjoy romantic songs, like "I Only Have Eyes for You" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You".

I need a new car. I've got my eye on a Toyota.

After he told the audience about his emotional experience, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

We often argue because we don't see eye to eye on most subjects.

Can you look me in the eye and tell me you didn't do it?

I have to be careful on Thanksgiving. With all that food, it's easy to eat too much because my eyes are bigger than my stomach.

I was sitting at my desk looking at my computer, but out of the corner of my eye, I saw my boss coming towards me.
